Tony Asaro: Music
When the Interns Go Back to School
(Will Aronson)

Music by Will Aronson, Lyrics by Tony Asaro
I can’t get a job.
Hell, I can’t get an interview.
I send out résumé,
After résumé.
After résumé.
And each time I think, “This one’s the one.”
But each Craigslist link, and there’ve been a ton,
Yeilds nothing.
Why’s this city so cruel?
A guy can’t earn a buck.
Maybe I’ll have better luck
When the interns go back to school.
Yes, when the interns go back to school.
You know what I’m doing for money now?
Seriously? You wanna know?
I’m working shirtless at a leather bar.
Let that sink in:
I have an MFA from NYU,
And I’m working shirtless at a leather bar.
And the only reason I can work shirtless at a leather bar,
Is because I can’t afford FOOD!
Back home in San Francisco,
I was employable.
I found work,
And I found that work somewhat enjoyable.
But back home in San Francisco,
I dreamed of NYC...
Nothing can flatten
Your dreams like Manhattan.
It’s General Patton at Normandy!
I just want a job!
Please call me for an interview!
You look at résumé,
After résumé,
After résumé.
Please, find mine, and think, “This one’s the one!!!”
God, I feel like such a fool:
I thought I was unique...
I guess I’ll try again next week
When the interns go back to school.
Yes, when the interns go back to school.
Uh huh, when the interns go back to school.
